STSM Data Mining, Emotion Detection and Fluctuations Detection – Jan Choloniewski @ University of Amsterdam

March 17, 2014 - March 30, 2014

Workplan of Jan Choloniewski (Warsaw University of Technology, Poland)

I am a young research assistant interested in data mining techniques. During the Short-Term Scientific Mission at Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences I would like to confront results of my bachelor’s and master’s theses and recent studies with opinions of experts in the research field and to work out possible new ways of development of my future research in the field.
The main outcome of my work were fluctuations and emotions detection both in physiological signals and in social web data
using data mining and statistical physics-based methods. I would like to continues the study and, in particular, start an
investigation on improving existing supervised classification techniques and exploring new ways of supervised classification
based on physics-like approaches (such as analogies to nonlinear dynamic systems or quantum mechanics).
Within the limits of the mission the following aspects will be taken into consideration:

  • consulting recent work with an experts in the field;
  • an attempt to finish and test methods in development;
  • finding new directions of studies.

Presented issues are interesting in context of massive digitalization of real world informations.
