STSM Karima Haddou ou Moussa

Workplan of the visitCurrently I am working on a project called MoBi for monitoring Educational Science. Aim of this project is to perform a multidimensional analysis of research projects in Educational Science in a Monitoring Service over time. The monitoring service currently runs on Semantic Media Wiki (SMW) platform. One of my tasks is to develop a heatmap extension for SMW to show how strong the relationship between different indicators (such as classification, thesaurus terms, methods used) is . From the visit I expect deeper insights and input from the host institutions, the eHumanities Group and the eResearch group DANS as regards the following still open issues:

  • Metrics:What are proper metrics for calculating the relationship between different indicators? How can a threshold value be determined? What are proper measures to filter out more features? What are proper metrics to organize the relationships detected into fractions of “hot”, “warm” and “cold” areas?
  • User Interface Design:What colors are meaningful?In which manner should a legend of graphics be shown? Are there alternatives to heatmaps to represent relationships between data?
  • Re-Usability:What is to be done to build a re-usable version of the current implementation for other applications domains?

To discuss these points it is planned that I will first visit DANS, and later the week have a presentation my present work at the eHumanities group. This visit is related to WG 3 and WG 4 tasks in KnowEscape.
