Topic detection or topic construction? – The impact of researcher’s choices on the topics obtained by different algorithms

Working group meeting (WG 2,3)

This small scale workshop will look at the impact of researcher’s choices on the topics obtained by different algorithms. It continues the work of a core group of experts inside if TD1210 about the possibilities to algorithmically define topics and fields. This fundamental work has implications for science evaluation and for information retrieval.

Organiser: Andrea Scharnhorst + Jochen Glaeser (local).

It builds on previous workshops and a special session “Same data – different results? The performative nature of algorithms for topic detection in science” at the ISSI 2015. The main aim is to discuss papers for a special issue in the journal Scientometrics.
