Dr Tomi Kauppinen, Department of Computer Science, Aalto University School of Science, (FI)  visits Dr Marija Mitrovic, Dankulov, Scientific Computing Laboratory Institute of Physics Belgrade (RS)

Our research plan for the visit is comprised of the following three research tasks:
i) Analysis of Attendance Patterns
Scientific meetings play an important role in fast dissemination of scientific results, scientific collaboration and innovation. Although conferences and conference participation are of the major elements of the scientific knowledge building process, they have been largely overlooked in scientific analysis. During 2014 we have been collecting the data and analyzing attendance patterns in international scientific events. Our first task during this STSM is to start writing our first joint paper in which we will report our latest results. We are also planning to discuss and decide further steps of the analysis of conference attendance patterns and strategies they reveal for career building.
ii) Spatial Aboutness of Research
Dr. Kauppinen has recently made research on spatial aboutness. The dataset considered in this research contains information about DOI, authors and geographical location considered in publications in PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases in the period 2007-2013. The second task during this visit is to discuss and do a preliminary analysis of the dataset on spatial aboutness using network theory. We plan to combine this data set with citation data to better understand how the subject and geographic location, considered in the publications, influence citation patterns among them.
iii) Modeling Networked Experiences and Emotions
Dr. Kauppinen has created several platforms for gathering experiences and emotions. An example of these platforms is YouSense for gathering experiences triggered by spaces. During the visit we plan to discuss joint work on better
understanding of emotional patterns of humans.
